You were one of a kind. For 36 years you spread your chaos and your craziness and your mischief. When I was younger I thought you were the coolest. You had everything I wished I had. You had charm, you had humor, you had style, you had talent we can only wish for. You had everything it took to be someone amazing. You could have been anything you wanted to be, yet you chose to drown in your discontent and chose to be the worst version of yourself.
One thing we did have in common was our flawed hearts. I believe that in the family, the two of us are the most alike. With all your heart’s desires and horrible decisions, one of my biggest fear was to become like you. That scared and haunted me most of my life because I can easily see myself become you. It has been my goal to steer as far away from your footsteps as I can, it has not been easy. The past year I battled my own demons. Miraculously I survived and I thought I came out a much better person. I promised myself to be kinder, and see the brighter side of things, but again I fail. There is no brighter side to this. You’re just dead. Last Christmas you approached me but all I had was indifference. For that I will forever be guilty. I am sorry for not having the heart to forgive. I am sorry for not having unconditional love. Sorry for being as flawed as ever when it mattered most.
I wish I had more nice things to say about you. Not now. Maybe tomorrow I’ll remember. I’m not looking forward to it because I know then it will hurt more. You were never the big brother who gives advice, shares his wisdom or be our role model; you were the anti-role model and showed us everything one should not do. I guess that is still something we learned from, so thank you.
